Old Man Winter Doesn’t Like Us

I know it’s still another week before the “Official” start of Winter, but the Old Man has it in for us. Last weekend was -30C with a windchill of -40 or less. Tomorrow, our last afternoon meeting of 2025, is cancelled. OMW has decided that 4 hours of freezing rain and then 4 hours of snow and blowing snow is acceptable weather. Given that travel is going to be treacherous, we’ve decided to cancel the meeting.

I’m not sure about next Saturday’s meeting, on the 20th. I won’t be able to make it, but, weather permitting, others can.

If we don’t see you before then, Happy Holidays and have a Blessed New Year.

Two Meetings This Week!

We will be having two meetings this week. The first will be our regular afternoon meeting, Tuesday at 1 pm, and a second 1 pm meeting on Saturday at Timmy’s on the hill.

The subject of both meetings will be grants and the magazine.

New Dates Added & Newsletter Information

We’re going to be meeting the first Saturday after each regular meeting to update those who cannot make it to the regular meetings. The meeting place will be the Tim Horton’s coffee shop near the South Hill Mall around 1pm. Everyone is welcome.

There has been some discussion on creating a newsletter/magazine/newspaper for newcomers to Canada in general and Prince Albert in particular. The next meeting we have will be on July 1, 2025 at the South Hill Timmy’s, near the South Hill Mall. At that time (1pm), Cheryl will have more information on the creation of the newsletter/magazine/newspaper, both costs and grant information. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Extra Meetings Coming Up

We have a couple of members who find it awkward to attend our Tuesday afternoon meetings. We’re thinking of having Saturday afternoon meetings at Timmy’s, 2nd Ave. and 32nd St. (near the South Hill Mall) at 1pm every other Saturday. This will start on the 21st of June. I won’t be able to attend a Saturday meeting until then.

This coming Saturday, June 14th, Marjorie and I will be in Melfort, at Ripley Ford’s Craft Sale. We’ll have our books and the anthology available for anyone who is interested.

The weather is supposed to be quite cold tomorrow, with a windchill in the -30s. I’ve discussed  it with other members of the group and we’re going to cancel tomorrow’s meeting.

The meeting on the 18th is still a go, weather depending.

Grammar References

We’ve added a new reference page for grammar information. It’s on the menu above with links to the various sites we’ll use for reference. Some of the lessons/tutorials will be printed out and we’ll do the exercises in the meeting, as well as have our “What We’ve Been Writing” read-aloud program going again.

We will also have meetings throughout the summer, first and third Tuesday afternoons, 1 pm to 3 pm, Room 1, JMC Public Library, Prince Albert, SK.
